LIVIN' THE DREAM: Music and lyrics by Dana Stewart, Bob Rynone, and Melissa McLeod

Michael was a lawyer down in Newport Beach
Barbara taught the kids that no one else could reach
One day they said hey, this workin' life ain't for me
Let's leave it all behind for a life on the sea
So they bought a boat, a lovely 47-foot yacht
And an around-the-world journey they began to plot
They quit their jobs and Michael put his house up for sale
Called the Daily Pilot; now it's too late to bail!

We're livin' the dream
Oh yeah and ain't it a scream
We're off the beaten track
oh, there's no turning back
and we're livin' the dream

Mike and Barb and crew headed out to sea
Stocked with food, drink, and... Waterford crystal? Mais oui!
As part of the Transpac Race to Waikiki
At the finish line were waiting friends and family
But the race did not go quite as planned, you know
Cut fingers... helicopters... and no wind would blow
Two weeks later they still had not arrived out west
But Captain Michael lifted spirits with a pirate fest

We're livin' the dream
Oh yeah and ain't it a scream
We're off the beaten track
oh, there's no turning back
and we're livin' the dream

More and more tuna casserole the crew was fed
A week late they finally sailed past Diamond Head
Forget the torn spinnaker and engine that died
They were greeted in port with mai tais, leis, and pride
They partied like rock stars--no worries or stress,
While Michael kissed the ground and sought out the press!
Despite it all they'd made it to the end of the race
And in the end, don'tcha know, they even took second place!

We're livin' the dream
Oh yeah and ain't it a scream
The boat's falling apart
But hey, at least it's a start
and we're livin' the dream

Michael headed back home to sell that domicile
While Barb and Brian worked on the boat for awhile
Mike returned, and on they sailed through some punishing rain
Ever-faithful Traveler all the blows did sustain
When they arrived in Tahiti Michael danced the gator
The Hula Girls all nodded and said, "See ya later!"
At the laundromat, Barbara grew a bit pensive
Life in paradise sure was expensive

We're livin' the dream
Oh yeah and ain't it a scream
The boat's falling apart
But hey, at least it's a start
and we're livin' the dream

Barbara spent December at the Bali Hai
To fill the coffers Michael had to say goodbye
It was challenging and lonesome for our dear first mate
Squalls and downpours were to be her fate
While Michael dealt with lawyers and his real estate
Barb swam in the reef and became shark bait
Together once again, they could pull up anchor
Get back on their way, avoiding late-night tankers

We're livin' the dream
Oh yeah and ain't it a scream
We're setting sail again
Can I hear an amen?
Cuz we're livin' the dream

So here's to following seas and no hot flashes
Just friendly natives and some tipico bashes
Sails to trim and lines for hauling
There's many a foreign port that's a-calling
Who knows what grand adventures do await
Might not be perfect but hey, you know it will be great
You can read the blog and watch as they sail away
And if you listen real close you can hear them say

We're livin' the dream
Oh yeah and ain't it a scream
We're setting sail again
Can I hear an amen?
Cuz we're livin' the dream

*Guitar solo*

We're livin' the dream
Oh yeah and ain't it a scream
We're off the beaten track, and there's no turning back
The boat's falling apart, but hey at least it's a start
We're setting sail again, can I hear an amen....
Cuz we're livin' the dream!
